Before you buy a launch monitor, the single most expensive mistake is a unit your room can't fit. This database collects manufacturer-stated space requirements for 15 launch monitors: room depth, ceiling height, space behind the ball, and ball-to-screen distance, each with the official source linked. The headline finding: only 7 of 15 manufacturers publish usable space numbers at all. Radar units need the most total depth (14 to 21 feet). Photometric floor units need the least. Overhead systems trade floor space for ceiling height. And if a number below says UNPUBLISHED, that's the manufacturer's silence, not our laziness.

Three Findings From the Data

1. Technology dictates the room, and the spread is huge. Among manufacturers who publish numbers, radar units that sit behind the ball need 14 to 21 feet of total depth (Rapsodo's ~14 ft is the friendliest; the Mevo+ wants up to 21). Photometric floor units like SkyTrak sit beside the ball and compress the requirement to a 17-foot recommended room. Overhead systems flip the trade entirely: TrackMan iO claims no minimum distance requirements at all, and the EYE XO2 asks only for a 10-foot ceiling and a 13x16 room. If your space is under 14 feet deep, the manufacturer data says your shortlist is photometric or overhead, full stop.

2. Ceiling height is the forgotten spec. Only three manufacturers publish a ceiling number at all (SkyTrak 9 ft, Uneekor 10 ft, TrackMan's 10+ ft guideline), yet ceiling height is the constraint most garage and basement builds actually fail on. Every behind-ball radar unit leaves you to figure out swing clearance yourself.

3. The budget tier publishes the least. The units most likely to be bought by first-time buyers with the least room to spare (R10, LM1, Rainmaker) are exactly the ones whose makers publish no space guidance in accessible page text. The premium tier (TrackMan, Full Swing, Uneekor, SkyTrak) documents space best. The buyers who most need the number get it least.

The UNPUBLISHED Problem

Eight of fifteen units have no manufacturer-published space requirements we could find in accessible page or manual text. That's not a research failure to hide; it's the finding. Dealers fill the vacuum with estimates that vary by several feet for the same unit, and buyers frame rooms around numbers nobody official ever stated. Where a widely-repeated dealer figure exists, our per-unit reviews discuss it as exactly that, a dealer figure. This table keeps the official column honest.

To the manufacturers on the UNPUBLISHED list: publish your setup dimensions on the product page. It's the first question every indoor buyer asks, and today they're getting the answer from guesswork. Compiled July 2026 from manufacturer product pages, official setup/planning pages, and manuals only; every number links its source in the table. Rules: (1) a cell gets a value only if the manufacturer published it; (2) dealer, retailer, and review-site figures never appear in official columns; (3) where a manufacturer's own pages are ambiguous, the cell stays UNPUBLISHED rather than printing our interpretation; (4) figures are the manufacturer's minimums or recommendations as labeled, not our installation advice: taller golfers, longer clubs, enclosure depth, and left/right-handed sharing all add real margin. Photometric units that sit beside the ball compress that (SkyTrak recommends a 17-foot room). Among floor units, side-placed photometric monitors (SkyTrak, Bushnell Launch Pro, Foresight GC3 class) need less depth than behind-ball radar, because no ball-flight tracking distance is required.
Garmin does not publish setup dimensions for the R10 in accessible product-page or support text, which is why our database lists it as UNPUBLISHED. Widely-circulated dealer guidance suggests roughly 6 feet behind the ball plus flight space, but that is dealer guidance, not a manufacturer spec.
