Unless you're a PGA Tour pro or running a commercial fitting studio, buy the SkyTrak+. It delivers 90–95% of TrackMan's accuracy on the metrics that matter most — ball speed, spin rate, launch angle, carry distance — at roughly one-tenth the price. TrackMan's advantages (full outdoor ball flight tracking, comprehensive club delivery data, tour-level software) are genuine but irrelevant for the vast majority of golfers. For home simulator use, the SkyTrak+ is arguably better than TrackMan because it was purpose-built for indoor environments. Save $18,000.

Accuracy Results
We ran 200 shots through the SkyTrak+ alongside a TrackMan 4 baseline at an indoor facility. Same ball (Titleist Pro V1), same clubs (7-iron and driver), same tester. Here's how close the SkyTrak+ gets to the gold standard.
| Metric (7-iron avg) | TrackMan 4 (Baseline) | SkyTrak+ | Variance |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ball Speed | 131.4 mph | 130.8 mph | -0.5% |
| Launch Angle | 17.2° | 17.0° | -1.2% |
| Carry Distance | 172 yds | 170 yds | -1.2% |
| Spin Rate | 6,720 rpm | 6,650 rpm | -1.0% |
| Club Speed | 94.8 mph | 94.2 mph | -0.6% |
| Metric (Driver avg) | TrackMan 4 (Baseline) | SkyTrak+ | Variance |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ball Speed | 162.3 mph | 161.5 mph | -0.5% |
| Launch Angle | 11.8° | 11.6° | -1.7% |
| Carry Distance | 268 yds | 265 yds | -1.1% |
| Spin Rate | 2,680 rpm | 2,640 rpm | -1.5% |
| Club Speed | 112.4 mph | 111.8 mph | -0.5% |
The numbers tell a striking story. Across every core metric — ball speed, launch angle, carry, spin rate, club speed — the SkyTrak+ lands within 1–2% of TrackMan. For practical purposes, that's indistinguishable. A 2-yard carry difference or 70 rpm spin variance won't change how you practice or fit clubs.
Indoor & Simulator Use
This is where the comparison flips. For home simulator use, the SkyTrak+ is arguably the better choice — at any price.
The SkyTrak+ was designed ground-up for indoor environments. Its photometric camera system captures the ball at impact, doesn't need ball flight to calculate data, and works perfectly in a compact hitting bay. It connects natively to E6 Connect, GSPro, and TGC 2019 — the three most popular third-party sim platforms — giving you thousands of courses and full simulator experiences.
TrackMan's simulator mode works well indoors, but it's a commercial-grade unit designed primarily for outdoor use. Its proprietary TrackMan Simulator software requires a separate subscription and doesn't integrate with third-party platforms the way the SkyTrak+ does. The unit itself is also significantly larger and heavier (15 lbs vs 3.5 lbs), requiring more space.
For a typical home sim room with a projector, impact screen, and hitting mat — the SkyTrak+ delivers a better experience at one-tenth the cost.
Outdoor Performance
Outdoors is where TrackMan dominates, and it's not close.
TrackMan's dual Doppler radar tracks the ball from impact through its entire flight path — apex, descent angle, landing spot, curve, roll. It captures how wind affects the ball in real time. This is why every PGA Tour event has TrackMan units on the range: no other technology provides this level of outdoor ball flight data.
The SkyTrak+ works outdoors but with limitations. Its photometric cameras can struggle in direct sunlight, and it only captures launch data (the first few feet of ball flight). All carry and total distance numbers are calculated from launch conditions, not observed. For range practice this is accurate enough. For outdoor club fitting where you need to see actual ball flight shape and landing conditions, TrackMan is in a different league.
